Propriété du groupe Edrington, The Highland Park est longtemps resté un malt confidentiel, réservé aux connaisseurs et amateurs éclairés en raison notamment de sa parenté avec The Macallan. De cette proximité, la distillerie en a tiré la quintessence, en ayant recours à la parfaite maîtrise du vieillissement en ex-fûts de sherry et à des fûts de très belle facture. Le patrimoine naturel, culturel et géographique de l'île ont fait le reste. Etablie en 1798 sur Orkney, une île battue par les vents et les vagues où le sang des vikings coulent encore dans les veines de ses habitants, Highland Park produit un malt à l'ancienne, marqué par une orge maltée sur place et légèrement tourbée. Si une rupture de pure forme (le flaconnage) intervint au tournant des années 1980, le style demeura intact jusqu'à la fin des années 90. Jouant sur le registre d'un sherry profond où des notes subtiles d'iode et de feu de tourbe accentuent son tempérament celte quasi mystique, Highland Park est aujourd'hui totalement sortie de l'ombre. Elle est l'une des distilleries les plus légitimes dans l'univers de la collection en raison de son histoire, de la qualité constante de son malt et de la profondeur de gamme.
