C'est à l'aube du nouveau millénaire que, sous la houlette du groupe Inver House Distillers Ltd, nouveaux propriétaires de la distillerie depuis 1996, Balblair s'affranchit de son passé de « malt à blends » (Ballantine's, Hankey Bannister, Pinwinnie etc.) et devient un single malt à part entière. Non tourbée et attachée aux vieillissements en ex-fûts de bourbon, Balblair multiplie les versions millésimées et les petites cuvées. Au début des années 2000, aux versions classiques Elements, 10 ans et 16 ans, viennent s'ajouter deux superbes versions âgées respectivement de 35 ans (1970) et de 33 ans. Mais c'est avec deux embouteillages intégralement vieillis en fûts de sherry 1966 (38 ans) et 1974 (27 ans) que Balblair sort des sentiers battus et évolue sous les feux de la rampe du monde des whiskies de collection.
