Cuvée presentation

A white rum from the Privateer distillery that was bottled as part of the Habitation Velier range in 2020. Velier est fondée par Casimir Chaix à Gênes en 1947. Velier was founded in Genoa by Casimir Chaix in 1947. It was originally a small, family-run business specializing in the import and distribution of wine and spirits. Luca Gargano, a former representative for Saint James and serious rum collector and enthusiast, bought the business in 1986 and began bottling whisky first in 1992 and then rum in 1996. After his legendary bottlings of Demerara rum (Guyana) and Caroni (Trinidad), Gargano extended his exploration of Caribbean rum into other territories, including Barbados, Jamaica, Haiti and Marie-Galante. Rums selected by Velier are only ever aged in a tropical climate, which explains both their concentration and the high angels’ share. They are generally bottled at cask strength or just below.

The distillery Privateer

Despite being renowned for its whisky and bourbon, there are still a few distilleries producing exceptional rums in the United States. Founder Andrew Cabot gave the house the name Privateer, referring to one of his ancestors. Accompanied by his team, he decided to offer rums made entirely in the United States. What sets these rums apart from others is that they use molasses that comes straight from Guatemala. The company, which is nestled in the heart of Massachusetts, carries out two lots of distillation before the vintages are aged in new American oak barrels. Aware of today’s environmental challenges, and in the interest of being open and honest, the distillery doesn’t use chemicals so that each bottle of rum can express its authentic, ancestral craft. It is in this harmonious context that the distillery offers exceptional cuvées that are rich and flavoursome, and rare rums produced entirely in the United States.
