Cuvée presentation

This Bally 1957 is the result of long maturation and a fine year, guaranteeing its aromatic brilliance, depth and legendary status. In fact, this rum, produced on a plantation in Martinique, comes from one of the oldest rum houses in the region, even the world. The Lajus plantation, located in Carbet, which ultimately gave its name to this rum, Lajus du Carbet, dates back to the 17th century (around 1670). Located close to a river, it was originally a simple and modest watermill that supplied a small local sugar factory. It took until the 1920s, amidst the height of the roaring twenties, that Jacques Bally, then the new owner, started to distill his own rums. From then onwards, revolutions took place in the world of beverages, as this ingenious and visionary owner was the first to come up with the idea of making rum using cognac production methods. Thus was born the first rum distilled in still, designed by Jacques Bally himself. Afterwards, the rums spend a few years in barrels so that ageing could produce an extra depth and soul, and bring great emotion to the tasting experience.

The distillery Bally

Bally’s history began with the foundation in 1774 of the Lajus Habitation, a sugar refinery in Carbet, Martinique. In 1917, the French engineer Jacques Bally bought the premises and updated the distillery’s equipment. It developed international renown under his direction. In 1987, it was moved to Simon, and then to Saint James in 1996. The brand is currently owned by the La Martiniquaise group.
