Price estimate statistics ----Demerara rums are one-of-a-kind rums named after the Demerara River in Guyana. The region is known for supplying sugar and rum to many different countries, the British Crown in particular. Distilleries were built around a sugar mill with the aim of using molasses to create rum that was then given to slaves and members of the Royal Navy. In 1975, more than ten years after Guyana gained independence, all the country’s distilleries were closed and grouped together under a single entity, the Diamond Distillery. The latter continues to produce powerful, aromatic rums bearing the emblematic name of their former distillery. Most of the spirit produced is used to create blends, as the very old stills create rums marked by a heavy and complex character.
