This American distillery founded in Pennsylvania in 1753 took the name Michter’’s in 1950. At the time, the whiskey industry was slowing down, notably due to Prohibition. In 1989, the owners declared bankruptcy. In the 1990s, however, two businessmen paired up for a common cause, paying tribute to Michter’’s past by producing America’’s finest whiskey. They entrusted production to a pair of master distillers and set up a distillery in the heart of Kentucky, the hub of whiskey production. Michter’’s invests in every stage of production to create the finest American whiskeys. Wood is dried in the open air rather than a drying kiln and toasted before charring, and whiskeys are barrelled at 51.5% (instead of the industry standard 62.5%), exclusively in single barrels or very limited small batches.
