The owner of the Yuza distillery, Kinryu Corporation, was founded in 1950 by an association of nine saké brewers with the aim of producing a neutral spirit. Eventually, it was decided that the production of shochu would be favoured with distillation in a continuous still. As the demand for saké and shochu continued to steadily decline over the years, Kinryu finally decided to produce whisky and thus built a new distillery in the town of Yuza. The first distillation took place in November 2018 and the first whisky was bottled in 2022. Yuza is a single malt in the tradition of Scotch whisky, with the style marked by malted barley and fresh fruits.
The first official bottling from the Japanese distillery Yuza, aged for a minimum of three years in Bourbon casks and bottled at natural strength in 2022.
