The Ardnahoe distillery is the most recent to have opened on the Isle of Islay in 2017. It is owned by Scottish bottler Hunter Laing, who planned to set up a distillery between Bunnahabhain and Caol Ila in 2015. The site is splendid and the distillery has a breathtaking view of the Isle of Jura. Ardnahoe has been producing distillates with varying degrees of peatiness since October 2018, ranging from 5ppm to 40ppm. Ardnahoe uses a large majority (80%) of bourbon casks for ageing, with the remaining 20% being aged in sherry casks.
