Established in 1785 and located on the North-East side of the Island, River Antoine Estate is the oldest distillery in Grenada. Harvested by hand by the amarreuse women, the sugarcanes are then crushed by a water mill. The sugarcane juice obtained is then lightly heated in five metal pots, followed by open-air fermentation in cement vats which lasts for 6 to 10 days. Direct-fire distillation then begins in the two 600-gallon John Dore pot stills. The 600 bottles produced daily are lastly bottled and labelled by hand.
