A l'instar de Longmorn et de Glen Grant, Strathisla fut longtemps associée au célèbre négociant Gordon & MacPhail, dont les mises en bouteilles en accord avec les propriétaires se confondaient avec celles de la distillerie. C'est aussi au sein de leurs chais que s'est forgé le caractère et le profil aromatique de ce malt de premier rang. Un style généreux et complexe marqué par l'élevage en fûts de sherry de premier et de second remplissage, qui sera par la suite plébiscité par les amateurs de whiskies. Cette identité fut déclinée à foison au gré des millésimes proposés par Gordon & MacPhail, dont le plus ancien remonte à 1937 (étiquette blanche « Licenced Bottling » et étiquette noire « Connoisseurs Choice »). En 2004, une rupture s'opère. Chivas Brothers (Pernod Ricard), propriétaire de la distillerie, reprend la main et commence à proposer des éditions « officielles » de type small batch de Strathisla, sous les gammes Cask Strength Edition et Distillery Reserve Collection.
