Fondée en 1825 en tant que Milton Distillery, celle-ci fut rebaptisée Glenkinchie en 1837. Glenkinchie est l'une des rares distilleries des Lowlands encore en activité. Cette région, autrefois prospère et privilégiée pour la production de whisky, tombe en disgrâce au 18ème siècle en raison d'un régime de taxes défavorables et d'une piètre qualité d'alcool. Accueillie au sein de la Scottish Malt Distillers Ltd au début des années 1920, Glenkinchie ne connut que très peu de périodes de fermetures et devint un malt incontournable pour de nombreux blends : Dewars, Dimple, Haig. Mais ses embouteillages en nom propre sont rares et sa renommée est principalement due à la célèbre gamme des « Six Classic Malts ».
