Cuvée presentation

This 1966 Bally rum is the exquisite result of a lengthy ageing process which rewards it with aromatic brilliance, depth and a legendary character. In fact, this rum comes from one of the oldest rum houses in the region - possibly even the world. The Lajus plantation, located in Carbet, which gives its name to this rum, Lajus du Carbet, dates back to the 17th century, around 1670 to be precise. Located near a river, it began as a simple, modest water mill which powered a small local sugar factory. It was not until the 1920s that Jacques Bally, the new owner, began distilling his own rums. From that year onwards, the beverages began to take a new turn, as this ingenious and visionary owner first had the idea of making rum using the same methods as for cognac. That was when the first rum distilled in stills, designed by Jacques Bally himself, came about. Afterwards, the rum spends some years in casks so that the ageing can allow for extra depth and soul and bring great emotion to the tasting.

The distillery Bally

Bally’s history began with the foundation in 1774 of the Lajus Habitation, a sugar refinery in Carbet, Martinique. In 1917, the French engineer Jacques Bally bought the premises and updated the distillery’s equipment. It developed international renown under his direction. In 1987, it was moved to Simon, and then to Saint James in 1996. The brand is currently owned by the La Martiniquaise group.
