On the occasion of the FSA 2026 charity auction, Black Tot Rum is offering an exceptional set of three bottles, each drawn from a different level of its Historic Solera.
Inspired by the traditional blending method used in Spain to produce sherry, Black Tot Historic Solera is a rich and opulent rum of remarkable complexity. The use of casks that previously held Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry, combined with the slow oxidation enabled by an authentic solera system, gives it deep notes of fig, plum, and dark chocolate.
After an initial maturation in Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, the rum enters the three-tiered Black Tot solera. Located in Jerez, Spain, it was formerly used for more than 70 years to blend sherry.
The rum spends one year in each of the solera’s three levels. Its journey begins at the top, in the second criadera, before continuing to mature and blend for a minimum of three years, until it is drawn from the solera itself, at the lowest level.
Only part of the rum is drawn off at each stage. This process allows rums of different ages to gradually mingle from one level to the next, perpetuating the very principle of the solera.
The purchaser of this lot will enjoy an exceptionally rare opportunity: to discover each of the system’s three levels separately and follow the evolution of this rich and powerful rum, presented at natural cask strength.
Each bottle captures a precise moment in the rum’s evolution within the solera. The development of this blend has been meticulously monitored since its creation by Black Tot’s Master Blender, who has closely guarded its secrets.
The solera is now housed in the warehouses of Tormore Distillery, in Speyside, Scotland. The cool conditions and constant humidity encourage slow oxidation, helping to soften the rum while enriching its aromatic profile.
This set therefore offers a unique insight into a remarkable blending technique and its application to rum. Above all, it makes it possible to explore the maturation of Black Tot Historic Solera in a way that had previously been reserved exclusively for the brand’s Master Blender.
After being hand-filled directly from the different levels of the solera, the three bottles were individually engraved and wax-sealed by Elixir Distillers’ blending team in Scotland.
Only three sets were produced. One will become part of the Elixir Distillers archives, while another will be offered at a future charity auction.
