Guadeloupe is home to a charming region called Le Lamentin, in the heart of which Edouard Reimonenq set up a sugar refinery in 1918. Ten years later, entrepreneur Charles Simonnet bought the property, which has since come to bear his name. That same year, the domain was destroyed by a cyclone and so, the owner then decided to entirely reconstruct the domain. Years passed and the distillery grew, crushing ever greater quantities of sugar cane to create exceptional rums. The distillery and the sugar refinery were doing so well that the Simonet family relocated their residences there. Old rums, traditional rums and rhums agricoles are exported or sold locally. The distillery eventually closed its doors in 1994, after having lost some of its presence as a result of the region's bad weather and the passage of time. Since its closure, collectors, who are nostalgic for its heyday, are snapping up each and every bottle of its ever-more prestigious vintages.
