Founded in 1753 in the parish of Trelawny, on the edge of Cockpit Country in Jamaica, Hampden Estate continues to use production methods that have remained virtually unchanged since the beginning. The distillery relies on limestone-filtered spring water, exceptionally long natural fermentations, open-air muck pits and full distillation in double retort pot stills.
Each stage of production contributes to forging one of the most expressive aromatic signatures in the world of rum. This approach gives rise to the distinctive Hampden style, characterised by exceptional ester levels and the instantly recognisable profile known to connoisseurs as funk. It is a vibrant expression in which exuberant fruit, medicinal notes, and empyreumatic nuances unite to define the identity of the distillery.
The Trelawny Endemic Butterflies Series is a collection of single casks that showcases the various marks produced at Hampden Estate, all whilst celebrating the extraordinary diversity of the endemic butterflies of Trelawny, Jamaica. This series covers Hampden’s eight historic marks, plus a new mark, R<>H, created in tribute to Ruth Hussey, who, together with her husband Lawrence, bought Hampden in 2009. Aged entirely in a tropical climate for two years at Hampden Estate in ex-Cognac casks, these limited editions have been bottled at a high ABV.
This unique set comprises a magnum of each of the nine bottlings in the Hampden Estate – Trelawny Endemic Butterflies Series collection.

Independent & family-ownedKnown primarily in the rum, perfume and food industries, Hampden began to move out of the shadows in 2009 when the Jamaican government decided to disinvest from the national Jamaica Sugar Company and auctioned off its assets. The family-owned company Everglades Farms Ltd (owned by the Hussey family) secured the lot and became the owner of this gem which is now considered the alter ego of the Scottish distillery Ardbeg. This link with Scotland is no coincidence. Hampden Estate was bought in 1748 by Robert Stirling, who had left Perthshire (Scotland) in 1742. The Hussey family sells two expressions of its rum, including an Overproof which is particularly well-known in the bar and HORECA segment. But it was in 2017, when family-owned Italian (Velier) and French (LMDW) companies began distributing the first old rums, that Hampden really took off, rising to the ranks of the finest rums currently on the market.
