Cuvée presentation
Offered by la Barge 166 de Maison Ferrand
This unique lot consists of a 30-litre private barrel of 2013 Jamaica rum aged in a Madeira wine cask, currently maturing aboard Barge 166 on the River Seine. The purchaser is acquiring far more than a cask. They are entering the exclusive circle of Private Barrel Cask Owners, gaining access to private meetings, curated tastings, and full authority over all future decisions regarding their spirit
The rum in this cask was produced in 2013 at the Clarendon Distillery in Jamaica, using molasses that had been fermented for two to three days and then distilled in a pot still, the island’s most traditional method, which preserves the raw character of the terroir. It was first aged for three years in a tropical climate, in bourbon casks, before crossing the Atlantic to continue maturing in France for six years and eight months, in Ferrand casks, in a continental climate.
Having matured for two years and two months in Madeira wine casks, the spirit continues its ageing process on board Barge 166 inside ex-cognac casks. The decision of when to bottle the rum remains entirely with its future owner.
Free from added caramel or sugar, it currently sits at 52% ABV with an inviting amber hue. A complex nose delivers notes of biscuit, honey, plum, pineapple, and vanilla. The palate is rich and expressive, unfolding flavors of toffee, salted liquorice, coffee, and tobacco before giving way to a long, dry finish marked by hay, chocolate, and coconut.
The cask continues its ageing today on board Barge 166, moored at 166 Quai de Stalingrad in Issy-les-Moulineaux. Created by Maison Ferrand, Barge 166 is the world’s very first floating ageing cellar, a unique sanctuary where rums and cognacs mature as the river flows past. It is here that the future owner will be welcomed to taste their cask, consult with the team of cellar masters, and decide, entirely at their discretion, when to bottle their spirit.
Once the bottling decision is made, the 30-litre cask will yield approximately 55 bottles of 50 centilitres. The labels can be fully personalised, allowing the owner to give the cuvée a name of their choice or include a company logo for corporate casks.
It is an adventure that extends far beyond the point of sale, encompassing patience, tasting, and a deep appreciation for a rum that becomes, in every sense of the word, a truly one-of-a-kind bottle.Une aventure qui se prolonge ainsi bien au-delà de la vente, entre patience, dégustation et appropriation d’un rhum devenu, à tous les sens du terme, une pièce unique.
The distillery Clarendon
Monymusk is the main brand produced at the Clarendon distillery (National Rums of Jamaica), which is located on the site of the Monymusk sugar plantation from which it takes its name. It is today owned jointly by the Jamaican government, Demerara Distillers Limited in Guyana and Maison Ferrand in France. Clarendon was built in 1949. Originally it was a small distillery equipped with a single Vendome still, which was joined in 2009 by a larger still and a five-column still. The distillery’s warehouses are located at the Inswood distillery, which is also owned by National Rums of Jamaica and closed in 1992.
